Drug peddler killed in capital 'gunfight'

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the capital’s Motijheel area.

The deceased is Altaf Hossain Sagar, 36, said RAB 3 Operation officer ASP Saiful Islam.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB 3 team conducted a drive in garage patti area near Sadek Hossain Khoka Community Centre at 12:10am on Thursday.

During the time, 3-5 youths opened fire on the elite force. Saiful was injured when RAB men retaliated to the fire.

Later, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 1:30am, hospital outpost In-Charge Muzammel Hoque told the Dhaka Tribune.

“He was declared dead around 1:45am.”

He said the elite grorce for recovered 1204 bottles of phensidyl, two firearms, four rounds of ammunition and seized a private car from the spot.

Some 14-15 cases were filed against Altaf with different police stations in Dhaka
