Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and Jagannath Hall Provost Ashim Sarker have received death threat through letters.
The letters, apparently by Alkaida (sic) – Ansarullah Bangla Team: 13, were sent on Wednesday by post.
The letters read: “Must you will prepare for dead (sic).”
The name of HT Imam, political affairs adviser to the prime minister, has been mentioned on the top of the list of 10 noted personalities.
The letters also include DU teacher Kaberi Gayen, science fiction writer Professor M Zafar Iqbal, ruling party MP Tarana Halim, spokesperson of Gonojagoron Moncho faction Imran H Sarker, Bikash Saha, Md Iqbalur Rahim and Paltan Sutar.
When contacted, DU VC AAMS Arefin Siddique told the Dhaka Tribune: “I received the letter on Wednesday morning by post. The letter contained a list of several noted personalities, who has been targeted by members of the extremist group.
“We are not frightened by the threat. However, the senders must be identified and be brought under trial.”
Ashim Sarker also echoed the statement of the VC and said: “I got it around Wednesday noon by post. Such letters can not frighten us.”
A General Diary has been filed with Shahbagh police station in this regard.
Confirming the filing of the GD, Dhaka University Proctor Amzad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune: “The DU authorities have filed the GD as some of our teachers complained of receiving death threats through letters.”
The Dhaka Tribune has not yet gotten any information from the other people listed in the letter as to whether they received it.
