One person was killed while another was injured when some unidentified miscreants opened fire at them in the capital’s Badda area last night.
The deceased was Mozammel Hossain Rahin, 32, a resident of South Badda, and the injured is Manu Miah, 30.
Abdul Aziz, OC of Badda police station confirmed the incident and said they were the victims were shot inside a room of South Badda Jagarani Sangsad at Alfatunnesa School Road around 8pm. “The attackers are still identified.”
Locals rushed Rahin to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he pronounced dead around 9pm. Manu was taken to the Apollo Hospital in Bashundhara residential area, the OC said.
Rahin’s elder brother Tofazzal Hossain Tuhin told the Dhaka Tribune that he was notified about the incident by the witnesses. “I have no idea why they shot my brother,” he said.
An witness, who took Rahin at the DMCH, said Rahin was chatting with his friends in the room when some four or five people entered the room, opened fire at them, and left the scene hurriedly.
Around 50 or 60 locals, who were at the DMCH, tried to take away Rahin’s body from the hospital without the post-mortem.
To tackle the ruckus, Shahbagh police station was contacted for back-up, and police officials went to the DMCH to bring the situation under control and let the DMCH authorities perform the post-mortem.
When contacted, Shahbagh OC Sirajul Islam said police would hand over the body to his family only after the post-mortem was complete.
