Justice Manik: Magistrate barred Muslim lawyer from standing for Rasraj

He made the remarks while visiting the damaged houses and temples in the upazila on Saturday. He said: “We have come to know that some people are trying to compel Rasraj to give confessional statement. We will talk to the district administration soon to find a lawyer for Rasraj.” Besides, Shahriar Kabir, executive president of Ekattorer Ghatak-Dalal Nirmul Committee, has demanded army deployment to ensure security for the Hindus living in Brahmanbaria district’s Nasirnagar upazila. Besides, he suggested a judicial inquiry of the heinous attacks. Shahriar Kabir said: “The government has failed to prevent the attacks on the minorities. Moreover, it is yet to ensure proper rehabilitation of the victims, although six days have already passed since the start of events.” On October 30, a mob attacked the Hindu community, vandalised temples and their houses over a defamatory Facebook post allegedly made by a Hindu fisherman. Amid the ongoing tension, unidentified criminals set ablaze six more Hindu houses in the upazila on Friday. On Saturday, residents of a predominantly Hindu locality in Nasirnagar have foiled an attempted attack on their homes. The bid took place in Rishipara in the morning.
