HC seeks govt explanation over legality of JSC exam

The High Court bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil also asked the government to give an explanation in four weeks. The court passed the order after holding a primary hearing into a writ petition filed by a Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond. In the petition, the lawyer stated that the government is unlawfully holding the examinations. According to the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Ordinance, 1961, the SSC, HSC and its equivalent examinations are being held as public examinations and there is nothing called JSC examination in the ordinance, said the petition. He said the JSC exams have created a huge burden of study on the students and taking advantage of this, coaching businesses operated by school teachers have boomed. He sought the court's order to scrap a government notice of 2010 to hold the examination.
