A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the charge-framing hearing against former law minister Anisul Huq in a case filed under the Arms Act with Banani Police Station, setting December 3 for the next hearing.
Judge Elina Akter of Dhaka Special Tribunal-4 passed the order after the hearing on Monday. Zahirul Islam Kayum, the court’s public prosecutor, confirmed the matter.
He said Anisul, an accused in the case, was taken to the International Crimes Tribunal, prompting the court to defer the hearing.
According to the case statement, Anisul owned a pistol licensed in his name for personal security.
On September 3, 2024, the Home Ministry ordered the surrender of all firearms licensed for personal security between January 6, 2009, and August 5, 2024.
However, Anisul allegedly failed to surrender his licensed firearm or inform the police between September 4, 2024, and May 5, 2025.
The complaint also said police found no one at his address and found no information that the weapon had been surrendered. It added that there was no record of him purchasing ammunition for the firearm.
Sub-Inspector Md Jane Alam Dulal of Banani Police Station filed the case.
Following an investigation, Sub-Inspector Md Iyadul Huq of the same police station submitted a charge sheet against Anisul on August 29, 2025.
Anisul was arrested on August 13, 2024, based on a tip-off while allegedly attempting to flee by waterway from Dhaka’s Sadarghat area. He was subsequently placed on remand in several murder and attempted-murder cases and is currently in jail.
