A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on former acting Jubo League chairman Md Anwarul Islam and his wife Selina Khatun over allegations of acquiring a large amount of illegal wealth through abuse of power.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC lawyer Tarikul Islam confirmed the matter.
Earlier, ACC Assistant Director Md Ferdous Rahman filed a petition seeking a travel ban on the couple.
According to the petition, an investigating officer has been appointed to probe allegations that Anwarul acquired substantial illegal wealth by abusing his power.
The petition said the ACC had learned through a confidential source that Anwarul and his wife were attempting to flee the country.
It said their departure could hamper and prolong the investigation.
The ACC therefore sought a travel ban on the couple until the investigation is completed.
