Attack on New Gini Properties: Maj Gen (retd) Mohiuddin gets bail

A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to Major General (retd) Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury in a case filed over the attack, vandalism and looting at a New Gini Properties housing project, including at content creator Salman Mohammad Muqtadir's "Brownfish Studio", in the South Manikdi area of the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by the defense.

The court granted him bail on a Tk 2,000 bond until the next scheduled date, according to his lawyers.

The next date for submitting the investigation report in the case has been set for October 28.

Golam Mohiuddin was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from a house in the capital's Segunbagicha area on September 30.

New Gini Properties Director Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case with Cantonment Police Station over the attack on the housing project near the ECB Chattar on the night of September 26.

Salman Muqtadir's "Brownfish Studio", located inside the housing project, was also attacked, vandalized and looted.

According to the case statement, a group of people, equipped with weapons, entered the project area and opened fire before attacking with machetes, knives and sticks. At one stage, they entered Salman Muqtadir's studio and vandalized and looted it.

The complaint alleged that cash, laptops, computers, cameras, professional media equipment and other valuables were looted, while vehicles were also vandalized.

Several people, including site engineer Md Parvez, were injured in the attack.

The complainant alleged that the incident caused losses of around Tk 1.42 crore to the company and that goods worth Tk 1.50 crore were allegedly stolen.

Thirteen people were named in the case, while another 150 to 200 unidentified people were accused.
