ICT sets Oct 6 to complete testimony in Ziaul Ahsan case

The International Crimes Tribunal has set October 6 to complete the testimony of the investigation officer in the crimes against humanity case against Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan over allegations of enforced disappearance and killing of more than 100 people during the Awami League government.

Tribunal-1 passed the order on Sunday following a prosecution petition. Earlier, investigation officer Md Rafiqul Islam gave partial testimony on September 30.

The prosecution said three charges had been brought against Ziaul Ahsan following a lengthy investigation. A formal charge was filed against him on December 17, 2025, and the tribunal framed charges and ordered the trial to begin on January 14, 2026.

Ziaul Ahsan served as director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC). He was arrested in mid-August 2024.

The prosecution said the state’s presentation of evidence would conclude with the completion of the investigation officer’s testimony. The defence will then have an opportunity to present its evidence, followed by the arguments stage.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim had earlier said the prosecution believed it had established the charges against Ziaul Ahsan through the testimony of 15 witnesses.
