The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered treatment under prison rules for former army officer Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, who was arrested in separate cases involving allegations of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killing.
International Crimes Tribunal-2 passed the order on Thursday.
Tareque Sayeed’s lawyer, Mahmudul Hossain Rubel, said his client was produced before the tribunal again on September 16. Following a prosecution petition, the tribunal allowed him to be interrogated for one day.
Rubel alleged that several prison guards attacked Tareque Sayeed with sticks late that night at Munshiganj Jail.
He said Tareque Sayeed sustained a head injury and was beaten on different parts of his body.
“We sought a judicial inquiry into the incident and treatment for Tareque Sayeed. After hearing the petition, the tribunal ordered treatment in accordance with prison rules,” Rubel said.
On December 15, 2013, three BNP leaders in Lakshmipur, Abdul Mannan, Zahirul Islam Sumon and Asaduzzaman Babul, were killed, while BNP activist Bellal Hossain was allegedly disappeared.
