Dhaka court on Monday placed expelled Jamaat-e-Islami leader and lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam on four-day and his first wife Maksuda Begum on one-day remand in a case filed over allegedly abetting his second wife to commit suicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order after a hearing on the remand petitions at around 3:00pm.
Earlier, police brought Gazi Nazrul and Maksuda to the court in a microbus at around 2:22pm and kept them at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court lock-up.
Police later sought seven days’ remand for each of them for interrogation. After the hearing, the court granted four days’ remand for Gazi Nazrul and one day for Maksuda.
