The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has set October 7 for the hearing on framing charges in a case concerning alleged crimes against humanity committed during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, Dhaka.
The tribunal issued the order on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the prosecution informed the tribunal that newspaper notices had been published asking 30 fugitive accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, to surrender. However, none of them complied.
The prosecution therefore sought permission to proceed with the trial in their absence and requested that state-appointed lawyers be assigned to represent them.
The tribunal accepted the petition and set October 7 for the hearing on framing charges.
Of the 41 accused in the case, 11 who have been arrested were produced before the tribunal on Wednesday morning.
According to the prosecution, 58 people were killed in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chittagong and Comilla in connection with the Hefazat-e-Islam rally on May 5, 2013.
The investigation agency identified 32 deaths in Dhaka, 20 in Narayanganj, five in Chittagong and one in Comilla.
