Independent lawmaker Barrister Rumeen Farhana has sought departmental and legal action against Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Nazrul Islam Choton for allegedly making “defamatory, offensive and indecent” remarks about her on Facebook.
Rumeen, the lawmaker for Brahmanbaria-2, submitted a written complaint to the attorney general on Monday, attaching a link to Choton’s Facebook account and screenshots of the post.
In the complaint, she said Choton, a state law officer, posted an “extremely offensive, defamatory and indecent” statement targeting her from his personal Facebook account on September 11.
Rumeen alleged that the “threatening, abusive and provocative” remarks by a government law officer were not only insulting to her but also tarnished the image and professional dignity of the Attorney General’s Office.
She said the Attorney General’s Office represents the state and that such improper use of social media by a DAG was unacceptable.
Rumeen urged the attorney general to consider the matter seriously and take departmental and appropriate legal action against Choton.
