A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed three accused on a three-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Sagar Khan alias Imran, 38, at an autorickshaw garage in Jatrabari and the serious injury of his friend Saddam.
The accused are Riazul Islam Riaz alias Kalia Riaz, 31, Kamrul Hasan, 25, and Saiful Hossain, 20.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat passed the order after police produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand for questioning.
According to the case statement, a dispute had been ongoing between Riazul Islam Riaz and Kamrul Hasan and autorickshaw businessman Sagar Khan alias Imran over a demand for Tk2 lakh in extortion.
The accused allegedly entered Imran’s garage on September 6 and opened fire, shooting Imran in the head and seriously injuring him.
During the incident, the attackers also beat Imran’s friend Saddam. When he tried to flee, he was shot in the leg and later hacked with sharp weapons, according to the case statement.
Locals rescued Imran and Saddam and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Imran dead. Saddam received primary treatment.
The case statement further said the attackers took Tk1.80 lakh, a mobile phone and a motorcycle from Imran, and Tk65,000 and a mobile phone from Saddam.
Imran’s wife filed the case with Jatrabari police station on September 7.
