Madrasa head teacher held over alleged rape of 3 students in Jhenaidah

Police have arrested a madrasa teacher in Jhenaidah’s Kotchandpur Upazila for allegedly raping three residential students repeatedly.

The accused, Abul Bashar, 33, was arrested on Monday night after the father of one of the alleged victims filed a rape case with Kotchandpur Police Station.

Bashar, son of late Aminul Islam of Harindia village of the upazila, is the head teacher of Darul Uloom Madrasa in the Dudhshar area of Kotchandpur municipality. The three alleged victims are residential students of the madrasa, reports Bangla Tribune.

Police said sexually stimulating herbal medicines were recovered from the teacher’s room after his arrest, according to Kotchandpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan.

The OC said Bashar had allegedly raped the three students repeatedly over several days. The allegations came to light on Monday when the grandfather of one of the students visited the madrasa and was told about the incident by his grandson.

The grandfather informed the family, who later went to the madrasa and confronted the teacher. Police subsequently arrived and detained Bashar from the madrasa in the evening.

The father of one of the alleged victims filed the case later that night.

Bashar was shown arrested in the case and sent to jail by a court on Tuesday afternoon, the OC said.

A guardian of another alleged victim, speaking on condition of anonymity, said such an incident was unacceptable and demanded a fair investigation and justice.
