Ilias Ali disappearance: Wing Commander Saifur arrested

The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered the arrest of Bangladesh Air Force Wing Commander Saifur Rahman in connection with the enforced disappearance of BNP leader Ilias Ali in a case alleging crimes against humanity.

International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued the order on Sunday following a prosecution plea after Saifur Rahman was produced before the tribunal.

Earlier, on August 9, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant for Saifur Rahman based on a prosecution petition.

The prosecution said the investigation officer had found evidence of Saifur Rahman’s involvement in Ilias Ali’s disappearance. The investigation is still ongoing.

Saifur Rahman was produced before the tribunal in compliance with the arrest warrant.

Ilias Ali, a BNP leader and former Sylhet-2 MP, went missing from Dhaka’s Banani area on April 17, 2012. He was also the BNP’s Sylhet divisional organising secretary.
