A 20-year-old man was allegedly beaten and hacked to death in Dhaka’s Rayerbazar following a previous dispute.
The victim, Jihad, was the son of Md Mosharraf Hossain of Mohammadpur.
A Dhaka court on Friday sent accused Md Parvez to jail in a murder case filed over Jihad’s death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Manzurul Islam passed the order after Mohammadpur police station Sub-Inspector Md Akkel Ali, the investigation officer in the case, produced Parvez before the court. SI Mizanur Rahman of the prosecution department confirmed the matter.
According to the case documents, on the night of August 17, an accused named Zahid called Jihad and his friend Nirob and asked them to come out for snacks.
The two were later taken to a tin-shed room on the third floor of a house on Idris Khan Road in Rayerbazar, under Mohammadpur police station.
Several other accused were allegedly waiting there. They surrounded Jihad and Nirob and attacked them over a previous dispute.
The two were allegedly beaten with bamboo sticks and iron rods and struck with the blunt sides of machetes, leaving them seriously injured.
During the assault, the attackers allegedly broke their hands and took Jihad’s Poco X3 Pro mobile phone.
As Jihad’s condition deteriorated, Parvez allegedly took him by autorickshaw and left him in front of his home at around 2pm on August 18 before fleeing.
His relatives took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred him to Uttara General Hospital as his condition worsened.
Jihad died at around 10:30am on August 19 while undergoing treatment.
His father later filed a murder case with Mohammadpur police station.
Police arrested Parvez on August 20 in front of Maritimes on Hashem Khan Road in Rayerbazar.
Police also said they recovered Jihad’s black Poco X3 Pro from Parvez’s possession.
According to police, Parvez had previously been accused in several cases, including attempted murder and drug-related offences, filed with Hazaribagh and Mohammadpur police stations.
