Model Ridhika Ridhi’s boyfriend, Hasibur Rahman, has been sent to jail in a case filed over her death at her Bashundhara Residential Area home in Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order on Sunday, said Prosecution Department Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain.
Family members found Ridhi hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom on Saturday morning. She was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Ridhi’s mother Moni Begum filed a case on the same day, accusing Hasibur of abetting her daughter’s suicide.
Hasibur, who had visited Ridhi’s home that day, was arrested from the spot.
On Sunday, Vatara police Sub-Inspector Abdul Wadud, the investigating officer, produced Hasibur before the court and sought his detention in jail.
In the petition, police said preliminary interrogation and investigation had yielded sufficient evidence supporting the allegations against Hasibur. They said he had confessed to the offence and admitted his involvement during questioning.
Police also expressed concern that he might flee if released on bail.
Hasibur’s lawyer, Golam Kibria Choton, sought bail and requested a hearing on Tuesday. The court sent Hasibur to jail and fixed Tuesday for the bail hearing.
Police said Ridhi had been on a video call with Hasibur when the incident occurred. Although the death initially appeared to be a suicide, investigators are probing the circumstances to determine the exact cause of death.
Ridhi, who worked as a model, also acted in several dramas, including Ekhane Manush Bikri Hoy, Bahurupi, Double Honeymoon and Sundori.
