A Dhaka court on Saturday ordered Arnab Das, 32, to be sent to jail after he was detained at Dhanmondi 32 while visiting the site to pay tribute to Bangabandhu’s portrait on August 15.
He was shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Dhanmondi police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after a hearing on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, investigation officer Sub-Inspector Md Ariful Islam of Dhanmondi Model Police Station produced Arnab before the court and sought an order to keep him in jail.
Lawyers for the accused, including Liton Mia and D K Gayen Tito, sought bail during the hearing. The state opposed the plea.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petition and ordered Arnab to be sent to jail. He was not brought into the courtroom during the hearing.
Police detained Arnab at around 10am on Saturday from Dhanmondi 32 and took him to Dhanmondi police station.
According to the case statement, Arnab is a member of the banned Awami League.
Sub-inspector Baban Uddin of Dhanmondi Model Police Station filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
