Police have sought a three-day remand for Kabir Islam, the father accused of killing his seven-month-old daughter by throwing her to the ground during a domestic dispute with his wife in Dhaka's Uttara area.
The remand petition was submitted on Thursday by the case's investigating officer and Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan Faisal of Turag Police Station.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain fixed Sunday for the hearing on the remand petition in the presence of the accused.
SI Helal Uddin of the prosecution division confirmed the matter.
According to the case documents, Kabir allegedly slammed his seven-month-old daughter, Rafa Moni Kobita, onto the ground on the evening of July 15 following an argument with his wife. Locals caught him and handed him over to police.
The following day, police produced him before the court after showing him arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the court ordered that he be sent to jail.
The infant succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment on July 16.
On July 17, the child's maternal grandmother, Sarmin Akter, filed a murder case with Turag Police Station against Kabir. Police later sought to show him arrested in the murder case, and the court granted the application on Tuesday before sending him back to jail.
According to the case statement, Kabir and Lima Akter were married two years ago, and Rafa Moni was their only child. Kabir, a rickshaw puller by profession, had allegedly been addicted to drugs for a long time.
The complaint alleges that Kabir frequently assaulted and verbally abused his wife after taking drugs. On July 15, Lima had gone to her father's home in Balur Math Harun Molla Basti with the baby to visit her ailing father.
Around 7:00 pm, an argument broke out between the couple over a family matter. Enraged, Kabir allegedly snatched the infant from her grandmother's arms, lifted her above his head, and hurled her onto the road.
The critically injured child was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she later died while receiving treatment.
