A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred until July 15 the submission of the supplementary investigation report in the murder case over the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha.
Sunday had been fixed for submitting the report. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is conducting the further investigation, failed to submit it.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam of Dhaka subsequently set July 15 as the new date for submitting the report.
The investigating officer has now received a 17th extension to submit the supplementary investigation report in the case.
Rokonuzzaman, a sub-inspector of the Dhaka Metropolitan Prosecution Division, confirmed the development.
Earlier, on January 6, the case's investigating officer, Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed, submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused.
On January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Mancha and the plaintiff in the case, filed a no-confidence petition against the charge sheet. On the same day, the court ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation.
According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi had been serving as spokesperson for the political and cultural platform Inquilab Mancha, formed after the July uprising.
At around 2:20pm on December 12, 2025, assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station before fleeing the scene. He sustained critical gunshot wounds to the head and below his right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Mancha, filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on December 14. The case was later converted into a murder case following Hadi's death.
