The High Court has granted bail to former chairman of Dhaka Zila Parishad and former general secretary of the Dhaka district unit of Awami League, Mahbubur Rahman, clearing the way for his release.
A bench comprising Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan passed the order on Monday.
Senior lawyer Md Motahar Hossain Saju appeared for the petitioner during the hearing.
Following the order, the lawyer said Mahbubur Rahman was arrested on December 16, 2024, and was subsequently shown arrested in nine separate cases. With bail granted in all of these cases, there are now no legal barriers to his release, he added.
Earlier, the High Court had directed that he could not be shown arrested without specific cases.
It is noted that Mahbubur Rahman was arrested on December 16, 2024, at the National Martyrs’ Memorial area in Savar while paying tribute on Victory Day.
