A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha Convener Sharif Osman Hadi until June 28.
This marks the 15th time the submission of the report has been postponed.
The report was scheduled to be submitted on Sunday. However, the investigation officer, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan, failed to submit it.
As a result, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah set June 28 as the new date for submitting the report.
The matter was confirmed by SI Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution department.
Hadi, who gained prominence following the July uprising and the movement demanding a ban on Awami League activities, had announced his intention to contest the 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
On December 12 last year, he was shot and critically injured while on his way to attend a public gathering in the Bijoynagar area.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. After undergoing surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital the same night. He was later flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on December 18.
Following the shooting, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case with Paltan police station on December 14. After Hadi's death, a murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was added to the case.
The investigation was initially conducted by police before being transferred to the Detective Branch (DB).
On January 6, the DB submitted a charge sheet against 17 people, including former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
Dissatisfied with the charge sheet, the plaintiff filed a petition with the court on January 15 seeking further investigation.
The court accepted the plea and ordered a fresh investigation, assigning the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
