Following the widely discussed verdict in the Pallabi minor girl rape and murder case, both the prosecution and the victim’s father expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling. Notably, state-appointed defence lawyer Musa Kalimullah also voiced a similar reaction, stating, “The offender has faced justice; I am satisfied.”
Speaking after the verdict, the defence counsel Musa Kalimullah noted that the accused had confessed to their involvement through a recorded statement and also admitted guilt in their self-defence submission. “Justice has been served,” he said, referring to the death sentences handed down to both convicts.
Earlier, the victim’s father Abdul Hannan Molla expressed immediate relief and gratitude after the judgment. “Alhamdulillah, I am 100 percent satisfied with the verdict. This is exactly what I had hoped for. I am hopeful the sentence will be executed swiftly,” he said.
He also thanked law enforcement agencies, journalists, and the general public for their support during the family’s ordeal, adding that he now expects the verdict to be implemented without delay.
A Dhaka court has sentenced the main accused Sohel Rana and his wife, Swapna Akhter to death in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old girl in the Pallabi area of Dhaka.
The judgment was delivered on Sunday (June 7) by Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal.
Earlier in the morning, the convicts were produced before the court ahead of the verdict session. The judge began reading out the judgment at around 11:05am.
Based on witness testimonies and evidence presented, the court found Sohel Rana and Swapna Akhter guilty and sentenced them to death, along with financial penalties.
The court further ruled that the fine imposed on the convicts must be paid to the victim’s family. It also stated that if the convicts fail to pay the fines, the district collector will take steps to recover the amount by selling their movable and immovable properties.
