Ex-MP Mujibur Rahman arrested, sent to jail in murder case

Engineer Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a Bangladesh Awami League politician and former Member of Parliament for Satkhira-1, was arrested and sent to jail on Wednesday in connection with a murder case over a shooting death during the July movement in Uttara.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain passed the order after a petition from the investigating officer, said Sub-inspector Md Shamim of the prosecution division.

Police arrested Mujibur Rahman late Tuesday from a house in Sector 11 under Uttara West Police Station. Later, SI Shahin Mahmud, the investigating officer of Uttara West Police Station, produced him before the court and sought his custody for interrogation.

According to the case statement, Asadullah was shot in Sector 7 of Uttara on July 19, 2024, during the July movement. Despite extensive searches, his family could not locate him at the time.

Following the incident, his wife filed a general diary with Turag Police Station. Later, on August 11, the family identified his body at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The family subsequently filed a murder case over the incident.
