A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of income tax records of Nadira Mahmud, widow of former industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, and Arifa Jesmin Konika, wife of former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order, granting two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the case filed by the ACC on April 8, 2025, Nadira Mahmud is accused of acquiring assets worth Tk 1.34 crore beyond known sources of income.
The commission alleged that the assets were obtained through illegal means for personal financial gain. For investigative purposes, the court permitted the seizure of her complete income tax records from the beginning of her tax history up to the 2024–25 tax year, including all permanent and miscellaneous files.
In a separate case filed on December 12, 2024, Arifa Jesmin Konika and her husband, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, are accused of jointly abusing power to accumulate illegal assets worth Tk 9.58 crore.
They are also under investigation over suspicious financial transactions involving deposits of Tk 22.34 crore and withdrawals of Tk 17.56 crore through 31 bank accounts, which the ACC has described as potential money laundering.
The ACC told the court that access to Konika’s income tax records from the 2008–09 to 2024–25 tax years is necessary for the proper investigation of the allegations.
