Court upholds Ivy’s bail in 12 cases, clearing way for release

The Appellate Division’s Chamber Court has upheld the High Court’s bail for former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in two cases filed with Siddhirganj Police Station, effectively clearing the way for her release, lawyers said.

With this latest order, Ivy now has bail in a total of 12 cases, 10 earlier and two additional, removing any remaining legal barrier to her release.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Md Rezaul Haque passed the order on Sunday. Senior Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju represented Ivy before the court.

Earlier on May 10, the Appellate Division upheld High Court bail granted to Ivy in 10 separate cases, including murder charges linked to the anti-discrimination movement. The order was issued by a bench led by the Chief Justice.

In November 2025, the High Court granted bail in five cases, three related to murder and two to attempted murder, after making the rule absolute. The bench comprised Justices ASM Abdul Mobin and Md Sagir Hossain.

However, the Chamber Court later stayed that bail following a state appeal.

Subsequently, on November 18, Ivy was shown arrested in five additional cases. On February 26, a High Court bench of Justices KM Zahid Sarwar and Sheikh Abu Taher granted her bail in those cases.

Of these, four cases, filed with Fatullah Police Station, are linked to the killings of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji, Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin, and Parvez. Another case, lodged with Sadar Model Police Station, involves charges of assault and obstruction of government duties.

The state later appealed, and on March 5, the Chamber Court stayed the High Court’s bail orders and referred the matter to the regular bench. Following a hearing, the Appellate Division ultimately upheld bail in all 10 cases.

Meanwhile, Ivy was shown arrested in two additional cases. The High Court granted her bail on April 30, which was again upheld on Sunday by the Chamber Court.
