The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday deferred arguments in a crimes against humanity case over offences committed during the July-August 2024 movement and fixed June 14 for the next hearing for seven accused, including banned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
A three-member judicial panel led by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-2, took the decision after the prosecution sought more time.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam appeared for the prosecution and sought time for the arguments. The court then adjourned the hearing and fixed June 14.
Prosecutors Faruk Ahmad, Abdus Sattar Palowan and Mainul Karim were present, along with other prosecutors. State-appointed defence lawyers for the accused were also present.
Earlier, testimony in the case ended on April 27. On that day, investigation officer Ahmed Naser Uddin Mohammad was cross-examined by state-appointed defence lawyers Lokman Howladar and Ishrat Jahan as the 26th witness. His testimony began on April 19.
The other accused in the case are Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting of Bangladesh Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and Chhatra League General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.
Formal charges were taken into cognizance on December 18, 2025. On January 22 this year, International Crimes Tribunal-2 ordered the start of the trial by framing charges against the seven accused.
