Hadi murder: Probe report submission deferred to June 7

A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, setting June 7 as the new date.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the date after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the agency investigating the case, failed to submit the report on the scheduled day.

Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution department confirmed the matter.

Earlier, on January 6, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Foysal Ahmed submitted a chargesheet against 17 people in the case.

On January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha and the complainant in the case, filed a naraji petition, expressing dissatisfaction with the DB-submitted chargesheet.

The court then ordered the CID to conduct a further investigation into the case.

According to the case statement, Hadi had been serving as spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, a political and cultural platform formed after the July uprising.

On December 12, at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station and fled the scene.

Hadi suffered critical bullet wounds to his head and below his right ear. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment. He died there on December 18.

Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case with the Paltan police station on December 14. The case was later converted into a murder case following Hadi’s death.
