Ex-DGFI officer Afzal Naser remanded for three days in seventh phase

A Dhaka court has placed former DGFI officer Md Afzal Naser on a three-day remand in the seventh phase of a murder case filed over the killing of Delwar Hossain during the July movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order on Monday following a remand application by the investigation officer.

State counsel Omar Faruk Farooqui confirmed the development.

According to the prosecution, after completing six phases of remand totalling 21 days, the accused was produced before the court, and the investigation officer—DB police Sub-Inspector Kafil Uddin—sought a further five-day remand.

The application stated that the accused had withheld key information and provided only partial details about the incident, making further interrogation necessary.

It also said additional questioning was required to determine the accused’s role and identify others involved in the killing.

After hearing the plea, the court granted a three-day remand.

Afzal Naser was arrested on March 30 by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from a residence in Mirpur DOHS.

According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, an attack took place in the Falpatti area of Mirpur-10 during the anti-discrimination student movement. The accused allegedly opened fire from multiple directions.

Delwar Hossain, who was participating in the movement, sustained গুরুতর injuries in the shooting. He was first taken to the National Heart Institute and later shifted to a private hospital in Shyamoli, where he died at 7:40am on July 21 while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, Delwar’s wife, Mosha Liza, filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station on July 6, 2025.
