The High Court on Wednesday ordered the Election Commission (EC) to preserve the ballot result sheet and other election documents of the Bagerhat-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election amid allegations of vote-count irregularities.
The order was issued by a single High Court bench led by Justice Mohammad Ali after it accepted a petition filed by BNP-nominated candidate Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain challenging the result.
The court also issued notices to the other candidates from the constituency.
Before the petition, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate, Sheikh Manjurul Haque (Rahat), was unofficially declared elected in Bagerhat-2 with 117,709 votes.
His nearest rival, BNP-nominated candidate Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, received 66,409 votes. Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain later filed the petition in the High Court challenging the result.
