Husband sent to jail in JU student’s death case

A court has sent Fahim Al Hasan to jail in connection with the death of his wife, Sharmin Jahan, a student of Jahangirnagar University, whose body was recovered from their residence.

The case investigator, Sub-Inspector Md Shahiduzzaman of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed the development on Monday evening. Fahim had earlier been produced before Senior Judicial Magistrate Aysha Siddika, who scheduled the remand hearing for March 24.

According to the police, a five-day remand had been requested, but the court set the hearing date later. The accused has now been sent to jail.

The case statement notes that the deceased, Sharmin Jahan, was a fourth-year student in the Department of Public Administration at Jahangirnagar University. Her husband, Fahim Al Hasan, is a fourth-year student of Economics at Dhaka College. The couple married on June 24 last year after a romantic relationship and began living in a rented apartment near Islamnagar, adjacent to the university, in September. Soon after, disputes arose between them over family matters, which Sharmin had informed her relatives about.

The case alleges that on Sunday around 4:45pm, Fahim called Sharmin’s uncle, Monirul Islam, claiming that Sharmin was seriously ill and asked him to come home. On arrival, Monirul found Sharmin lying bloodied on the bed. With the help of neighbors, she was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

The report also states that during the forensic examination, deep cuts were found on Sharmin’s right forehead and head. It is suspected that Fahim, with the help of unidentified individuals, intentionally attacked Sharmin with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal wounds on her head and body.

Investigation Officer Md Azgar Hossain of Ashulia Police Station said that Fahim was initially detained for questioning immediately after the incident and was later formally arrested following the case filed by Sharmin’s uncle. He was produced in court on Monday.

Sharmin Jahan, the deceased, was the daughter of Shahjahan Molla from Tetoi village in Kachua, Chandpur. Her husband, Fahim Al Hasan, is the son of Hanif Sarkar from Khairul village, Muradnagar, Comilla.
