Journalist Anis Alamgir released from Kashimpur Jail

Journalist Anis Alamgir has been released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur, prison authorities confirmed.

Senior Jail Superintendent Al Mamun said Anis Alamgir was released on Saturday afternoon after verification of all necessary bail documents.

Following the verification process, he walked out of the jail at 2:35 pm and left with his family members.

Earlier on Wednesday, a court granted bail to Anis Alamgir in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). With that order, he secured bail in both cases filed against him. His lawyer Taslima Jahan stated that there were no longer any legal barriers to his release.

Anis Alamgir was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on the night of December 14 last year from a gymnasium in Dhanmondi in the capital for questioning.

The following day, December 15, he was shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Uttara West Police Station.
He was later placed on a five-day remand. After the remand, he was sent to jail.

On March 5, the High Court granted his bail in the Anti-Terrorism Act case.
