A case has been filed against Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly intimidating and defaming the Prime Minister’s political adviser Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed.
Md Ashraful Islam, president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Ramna unit, filed the complaint as the plaintiff at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasan Shahadat on Sunday.
The court is expected to hear the matter later in the day before passing an order, the plaintiff’s lawyer Md Amirul Islam Amir confirmed.
According to the complaint, Patwary contested against Mirza Abbas in the 13th parliamentary election but lost by a large margin.
The plaintiff alleged that since the election, the accused has repeatedly made false and defamatory statements against Mirza Abbas on social media platforms and in various online news outlets.
The complaint also stated that on March 5 the plaintiff noticed defamatory remarks made by Patwary on Facebook, which were later circulated widely on social media and reported by several online news portals.
The statements were described in the complaint as defamatory and damaging to the reputation of Mirza Abbas, with the allegations spreading widely on platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
It further claimed that millions of people in Bangladesh had seen the remarks and that the statements were intentionally made to harm the reputation and political career of Mirza Abbas.
The plaintiff has also sought the issuance of an arrest warrant against Nasiruddin Patwary in connection with the case.
