The High Court has summarily dismissed a writ petition seeking a postponement of the 50th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination.
As a result, there is no legal obstacle to holding the examination as scheduled on Friday (January 30), lawyers said.
The order was passed on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice Raziq-Al-Jalil and Justice Md Anwarul Islam.
Earlier, on January 28, Advocate Nazmus Sakib filed the writ petition on behalf of examinees, challenging the decision to hold the examination during the period of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The petition raised concerns over candidates’ safety and the need to ensure a fair and conducive examination environment.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) opposed the petition, stating that all preparations for the examination had been completed in accordance with the announced schedule. The PSC also informed the court that arrangements had been made, with the assistance of law enforcement agencies, to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
Following the dismissal of the writ petition, the examination will be held as per the PSC’s previously announced timetable.
According to a PSC notice, the 50th BCS preliminary examination will take place simultaneously across the country on Friday (January 30) from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
Examination centres will be located in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh.
The PSC published the notification for the 50th BCS examination on its website on November 26 last year. The application process began on December 4 and concluded on December 31.
