The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has completed witness examination in the high-profile Abu Sayed murder case, which stems from the first killing during the July–August 2024 mass uprising.
The tribunal scheduled final arguments for Wednesday, January 14.
The stage of witness examination concluded on Tuesday through cross-examination of investigation officer Ruhul Amin before the two-member judicial panel led by Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid.
At the tribunal, Amin was cross-examined by Aminul Gani Tito, lawyer for former Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) Proctor Shariful Islam; Sujad Mia, state-appointed lawyer representing absconding accused; Mamunur Rashid, lawyer for banned Chhatra League leaders; and lawyers Ishrat Jahan and Shahidul Islam. Prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi M.H. Tamim represented the state.
Under tribunal procedure, defense witness examination follows prosecution testimony. However, no application for defense witness examination was submitted.
Earlier Tuesday, police produced six accused arrested from prison before the tribunal: ASI Amir Hossain; former BRUR Proctor Shariful Islam; Constable Sujan Chandra Roy; Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury; Rafiul Hasan Rasel; and Anwar Parvez.
Twenty-four accused, including BRUR Vice Chancellor Hasibur Rashid, remain absconding. Four state-appointed lawyers are representing them.
