The High Court on Thursday declared illegal the Election Commission’s gazette that altered the boundaries of the Comilla-2 parliamentary constituency.
The court directed that the constituency’s boundaries be restored to their previous configuration and that a revised gazette be published within 24 hours.
The ruling was delivered by a High Court bench led by Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, which declared the rule issued in the matter absolute.
Senior advocates Barrister Ehsan Abdullah Siddiqui and Barrister Saiful Islam Uzzal represented the petitioner during the hearing.
Following the verdict, lawyers noted that Comilla-2 had previously comprised Meghna and Titas upazilas. Under the revised arrangement, Homna upazila had been added to the constituency, while Meghna was transferred to Comilla-1. As a result, Comilla-2 consisted of Homna and Titas upazilas. The court’s ruling has now restored the constituency boundaries to their former state.
The writ petition was filed by Nazim Uddin Alam, the Jamaat-nominated candidate for Comilla-2, challenging the legality of the boundary changes.
Earlier, on September 24, 2025, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Biswajit Debnath issued a rule asking why the boundary changes ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election should not be declared illegal.
