High Court dismisses writ seeking removal of IGP Baharul Alam

The High Court on Monday dismissed a writ petition seeking the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, whose name was mentioned in the National Independent Investigation Commission report on the BDR killings.

A High Court bench led by Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi passed the order after the petitioner’s lawyer failed to appear before the court.

Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rouf and Barrister Anik R Haque represented the state during the hearing.

Earlier, the writ was filed by National Lawyers Council Chairman Advocate SM Zulfikar Ali Junu, seeking the removal of the incumbent IGP after his name appeared on a list of individuals held responsible in the commission’s report on the BDR killings.

Prior to filing the writ, Advocate Junu had also written to the chief adviser on December 6, urging the dismissal of Baharul Alam over the same issue. The letter was sent by registered post.
