Lawyers oppose High Court benches outside Dhaka

Lawyers held a protest at the Supreme Court on Monday against a consensus reached in talks between the National Consensus Commission and political parties to establish High Court benches in divisional cities outside Dhaka.

The demonstration took place on the Supreme Court premises under the banner of "General Lawyers."

Their march moved through different areas of the Supreme Court premises and ended with a rally in front of the Supreme Court Bar Association building.

The protesting lawyers strongly opposed and condemned the potential move to set up High Court benches outside Dhaka, in other divisional cities.

They said efforts are being made to establish such benches unlawfully, bypassing the constitution and the decisions of the Appellate Division.

They warned that instead of reducing the suffering of justice seekers, this move will increase it further.

They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the move.
