Court orders arrest of Satkhira assistant judge

A Jessore court has issued a warrant for the arrest of an assistant judge posted in Satkhira, who has been accused of demanding dowry and cheating by his wife. Judge Shahinur Rahman of Keshabpur court issued the warrant on Thursday after Kaliganj court's Assistant Judge Harun-or-Rashid failed to show up for the case's hearing. Harun's wife Joba Khatun filed two cases against him on March 19 and 23 at the Jessore court. Her lawyer Rokonuzzaman said the court initially issued summons but later ordered Harun's arrest as he did not attend Thursday's hearing. Joba, who hails from Jessore's Keshabpur, said they had gotten married on February 12 this year. “We started living at a rented flat in Satkhira and that's when I learned that my husband had another wife. When I confronted him, he demanded Tk5 lakh dowry,” she claimed. She said she moved the court as their families failed to resolve the matter.
