Tulip Siddiq, former Member of Parliament from the UK Labour Party and former City Minister, must appear in court to present her statement in connection with a corruption case filed over allegations of forgery involving plots and apartments, according to Md Akhtar Hossain, director general (Prevention) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the ACC official said that the commission is considering seeking assistance from international agencies regarding Tulip Siddiq, in accordance with the directives issued by the court.
He further clarified that Tulip Siddiq will be allowed to present her statement only by appearing before the court.
As per the allegations, despite residing in the United Kingdom, she was allegedly involved in corrupt practices in Bangladesh by misusing the state power of her aunt and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
It is alleged that during the Awami League government in 2000, she facilitated the approval of a government-leased plot in Gulshan to Eastern Housing and in return, received an apartment.
Additionally, in 2022, she reportedly used her influence to secure the allocation of valuable Rajuk land in Purbachal under the names of her mother, brother and sister.
The court has already issued an arrest warrant against Tulip Siddiq, directing her to appear before it on April 27.
