State seeks stay on HC verdict declaring 'Joy Bangla' as national slogan

The state has filed an appeal seeking a stay on the High Court’s verdict that declared "Joy Bangla" as Bangladesh's national slogan.

Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque confirmed the development on Monday.

In 2017, Supreme Court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed filed a writ petition requesting the declaration of "Joy Bangla" as the national slogan. Following a hearing, the High Court issued its verdict.

On March 10, 2020, a High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader delivered the ruling, officially declaring "Joy Bangla" as the national slogan. In the judgment, the court stated: “We declare that 'Joy Bangla' shall be the national slogan of Bangladesh."
