The Appellate Division has ordered that a rule concerning the bail of Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza in Savar, be resolved within two months, saying that until then, his bail will remain suspended.
The decision came on Monday from a three-member Appellate Division bench, led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, following a petition.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir represented Sohel Rana in court, while Additional Attorney General Mohammad Arshadur Rouf appeared for the state.
Previously, on October 1, the High Court had granted Sohel Rana six months' bail in a murder case filed over the Rana Plaza collapse that killed over 1,100 people.
Subsequently, the state requested a suspension of the High Court’s bail order.
On October 2, the Chamber Court referred the state’s request to the Appellate Division, suspending Sohel Rana’s bail in the murder case stemming from the Rana Plaza disaster.
Notably, on April 24, 2013, the collapse of Rana Plaza marked the deadliest accident in the country’s history.
Sohel Rana, the building's owner, is the key accused in the murder case related to the tragedy.
