A court has ordered 26 students, arrested for creating chaos at the Secretariat while protesting the cancellation of HSC exam results, to be sent to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain passed the order as police produced them before the court and pleaded to keep them behind the bar till completion of the probe.
On the other hand, the students' lawyers filed for bail.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain rejected their bail petitions and ordered them to be sent to jail.
The students sent to jail are: Zahidul Islam, 20, Md Faisal Hasan, 21, Md Raihan Hossain, 21, Md Rubel Ahmed, 18, Md Riyad Mahmud, 21, Md Mezbauer Rahman Milla, 18, Mehedi Hasan, 18, Sohan, 21, Imran Hossain Arman, 18, Mehedi Hasan Ontor, 19, Sagar, 18, Rohan, 18, Shahriar Hossain, 18, Ahad Molla, 22, Sohan, 18, Masnun, 18, Nayeem, 18, Imam Hasan, 18, Shakil, 18, Selim, 18, Saqlain Mustaq, 18, Hanzala, 22, Mashiur Rahman, 18, Prantik, 18, Tasim Rahman, 18, and Robin Mia, 18.
The students were arrested by the police on Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon, the students entered the Secretariat, causing disorder in protest of the cancellation of the HSC exam results. They damaged property and disrupted official work.
In response, Sub-Inspector (SI) Raihan Uddin of Shahbagh Police Station filed a case, naming 26 individuals as accused. Additionally, 60 to 70 unnamed individuals were also included in the case.
