The Ministry of Law has approved the reconstitution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), appointing Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar as its head.
This announcement was made by Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul during an urgent press conference held at the Secretariat on Monday evening.
The law adviser stated that judicial proceedings are set to begin very soon.
The three-member tribunal also includes Justice Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
He further indicated that the government is prepared to provide support for the International Crimes Tribunal-2 if necessary.
“This marks a significant step forward in initiating the judicial process,” Dr Nazrul said, expressing hope that proceedings will commence shortly.
In addition, he confirmed that the trial for the genocide committed during the July Revolution will take priority at the International Crimes Tribunal.
