High Court asks why govt's failure to protect shrines not illegal

The High Court has issued a rule asking why the government's failure to protect the country's shrines should not be declared illegal.

The secretaries of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and the Office of the Waqf Administrator, among others, have been asked to respond to the rule.

A High Court bench consisting Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Molla and Justice Zinat Hoque issued the rule during the hearing of a writ petition. Advocate Taufiq Sajwar Partha represented the petition in court.

Earlier, on September 10, the writ was filed in the public interest by Shah Alam Alvi, a follower of Maizbhandari and a Supreme Court lawyer.

The petitioner mentioned that about 69 shrines have been demolished so far across Bangladesh.
