A Dhaka court has sent former chief whip of the Jatiya Sangsad ASM Feroz to jail in connection with the murder of Sohag Miah at Bhatara police station in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehra Mahbub passed the order on Monday after rejecting his bail application.
Following a 10-day remand in two phases, Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Bhatara police station presented Feroz in court, requesting that he be held in jail. Feroz's lawyers sought bail, but after hearing arguments from both sides, the court denied the bail request and ordered him to jail.
ASM Feroz was arrested on the night of August 23 from the Banani area.
On August 24, the court initially granted a seven-day remand, followed by an additional three-day remand on August 31.
Sohag Miah was shot dead in front of Farazy Hospital under Bhatara police station on July 19 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. On August 20, his father, Shafayet Hossain, filed a murder case with Bhatara police station.
ASM Feroz, a prominent Awami League leader, was elected a Member of Parliament eight times, most recently from the Patuakhali-2 constituency in the January 7 election.
