Court grants another 6-day remand for Golam Dastagir Gazi

A Narayanganj court has granted another six-day remand for former member of parliament for Narayanganj-1 Golam Dastagir Gazi in two separate murder cases.

Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali approved the remand order on Sunday.

Confirming the details, Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Abdur Rashid said that the court granted a six-day remand for Golam Dastagir Gazi, with three days allocated for each of the two separate murder cases filed at Araihazar police station.

Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, former president of the Narayanganj District Bar Association and convener of the metropolitan BNP, said the court has granted remand for former Minister Golam Dostgir Gazi in connection with the murders of Shafiq and Babul Mia in Araihazar.

According to the case details, during the anti-discrimination student protests, a BNP activist named Shafiqul Islam was killed in Araihazar. A murder case has been filed against 45 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former MP Golam Dastagir Gazi, with an additional 150 unidentified individuals named in the complaint.

The case was filed by Shafiqul Islam's wife, Taslima Akhter, at Araihazar police station on the night of August 21.

Similarly, another murder case was filed concerning the killing of Babul Mia, the assistant vice-president of the BNP’s Duppura union in Araihazar, during the student protests.

This case was filed by Duppura Union BNP General Secretary Nurul Amin at Araihazar Police Station on the night of August 22.

Earlier, on the night of August 24, Golam Dastagir Gazi was arrested in the Shantinagar area of the capital.

He was subsequently shown arrested in the Ruppganj student Roman murder case and presented in the Narayanganj court.

Additionally, in connection with the killing of 17-year-old student Roman Mia in Rupganj during the student protests, a case has been filed against 45 people, including Golam Dastagir Gazi, with another 50-60 unidentified individuals named.

This case was filed by Roman’s aunt, Rina Begum, at Rupganj police station on August 21.

Golam Dastagir Gazi was previously remanded for six days in this case on August 25.
