Golam Dastagir Gazi placed on six-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a six-day remand for former minister of textiles and jute and former lawmaker for Narayanganj-1 Golam Dastagir Gazi in a case involving murder accusations related to the Anti-Discrimination Movement.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Kazi Mohsin issued this order on Sunday.

Court inspector Md Abdur Rashid said: “Golam Dastagir Gazi was arrested and brought before the court in connection with a murder case in Rupganj. The court has granted remand.”

According to local sources, BNP-affiliated lawyers chanted slogans demanding the death penalty for former Minister and MP Golam Dastagir Gazi.

During this demonstration, they threw eggs at the former MP.

Earlier, on the night of Saturday, Golam Dastagir was arrested from the Shantinagar area of the capital. He was subsequently brought to the Narayanganj court.

Notably, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a student named Roman Mia, 17, was killed in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

A case was filed naming Golam Dastagir Gazi and 45 others as defendants, along with 50-60 unidentified individuals.

The case was filed on August 21 by the victim’s aunt, Rina Begum, at Rupganj police station. Golam Dastagir has been arrested in connection with this case.
