A court has granted a four-day remand for the arrested Awami League Organizing Secretary and former Member of Parliament Ahmed Hossain, and former chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority, Rear Admiral (retd) Mohammad Sohail in the murder case of grocery store owner Nabiul Talukdar in Paltan, Dhaka.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Jasim Uddin issued this order on Wednesday.
Court sources indicate that the police requested a 10-day remand for both Ahmed Hossain and Mohammad Sohel in the Paltan police case, but no lawyers were present on behalf of the accused.
Mohammad Sohail, a former spokesperson for the RAB, claimed in court that he was in Chittagong at the time of the incident and was not involved in the case.
After hearing both sides, the court approved a four-day remand for both Ahmed Hossain and Mohammad Sohail.
The remand petition alleges that the two suspects are involved in the murder of Nabiul Talukdar.
On Wednesday morning, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced the arrest of both individuals.
Ahmed Hossain was arrested from Rampura, and Mohammad Sohail from Banani on Tuesday night.
Following the student-led protests and Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure from the country on August 5, many leaders from the Awami League and its associated organizations have gone into hiding.
This includes former ministers, government officials, and high-ranking state personnel, some of whom are now being arrested.
